Nizamabad, Telangana, 17th July 2019: Walmart India, the wholly-owned subsidiary of world’s largest retailer Walmart Inc., today launched its 26th Cash & Carry store ‘Best Price Modern Wholesale Store’ in India. It is the first in the city of Nizamabad, and third in Telangana State. Krish Iyer, President and CEO, Walmart India, inaugurated the store. The new store is a strong testament to Walmart India’s commitment to the State of Telangana State, which already has two Best Price Stores, in Hyderabad and Karimnagar, and plans to open fourth store in Warangal this year. The new store simultaneously got integrated with the B2B e-commerce platform.

With the mission of enabling businesses to prosper, Best Price Modern Wholesale Store will meet all needs of underserved businesses such as kiranas/resellers, offices & institutions (O&I) and hotels, restaurants and caterers (HORECA) in the region, under one roof. It will enable Walmart India to offer unique propositions of a wide range of quality merchandise & local assortment at ‘Every Day Low Prices’, unique shopping options, door-step delivery and convenient payment solutions to such business members in Nizamabad and adjoining areas.

Spread over 50,000 sq. ft., the store will significantly contribute to the local and state economy by creating an estimated 2,000 direct and indirect jobs. The store will also boost the smallholder farmers and regional supplier eco-system as it will directly source from farmers and locally relevant food, non-food products from local suppliers to fulfill the needs of its members. Besides, the new store has been integrated with sustainable solutions such as renewable energy, LED lights, water recycling through Sewage Treatment Plant and ground water recharging through collection of storm water and waste management.

Announcing the opening of the first store in Nizamabad, Krish Iyer, President & CEO, Walmart India said, “We are excited about opening the first B2B Cash & Carry Store in the City of Nizamabad, making it our 26th Store in India. We continue to expand our footprint in the State of Telangana with this 3rd store within a span of 4 months of opening the 2nd Store in Karimnagar. Telangana is an important State for us. We will continue to make investments here and it will remain an important sourcing destination for us as we source directly from farmers, develop many small and medium agri-commodity suppliers and for our Private Brands. We source fresh vegetables like Cucumber, Tomato, Cabbage, Cauliflower and Green Chilli from Vantimamidi market and red whole chilli from Warangal for Telangana Stores, as well as for our stores in other states including Maharashtra & Andhra Pradesh. While growing the business, we will continue to invest in the supply chain and supplier development, focusing on the growth of small and medium manufacturers in the State, developing local clusters to source directly from farmers and setting new benchmarks in the cash and carry business. I am also happy that we are simultaneously extending the B2B e-commerce platform to our members here which will make it convenient for them to shop without stepping out of their stores.

Meanwhile, we will continue to create shared value by generating 2,000 direct and indirect jobs in the local community; enabling kiranas & small resellers prosper by offering them relevant merchandise at Every Day Low Price, providing door-step delivery, convenient payment solutions and holistic advice on modern ways of retailing; helping hotels, restaurants and caterers succeed by offering them quality products at great prices; developing regional suppliers & MSMEs as compliant suppliers through our Responsible Sourcing program; Imparting training & knowledge to smallholder farmers in sustainable agriculture practices to improve yield & productivity while directly sourcing from them, thereby helping them double their income; skill development and capacity building programs through Women Entrepreneurship Development Program; promoting growth of digital economy by encouraging members to adopt digital payments such as PhonePe etc.; contributing to environment by building sustainable operations through Solar Power generation in the stores, use of LED and other energy saving technologies, electric vehicles, waste management, rain water harvesting and by doing all of the above with focus on 100% compliance with laws and regulations of the country.”

Beyond business, Walmart Foundation has provided a grant to the International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC) to strengthen agricultural production systems in rural and peri-urban locations in Telangana, touching 30,000 farmers over a period of 2 years.
